Logistics market data from Central Dispatch showed that average list prices per mile (PPM) accelerated their decline year–over–year for the month of February, the sixth sequential decline in a row. The average listed PPM lost $0.03, down 2.8% from January and off 6.3% from February 2024. The price of #2 Diesel rose slightly in February to $3.70 per gallon, or 1.0%, from January. Since last February, #2 Diesel has declined 8.9%.

In February 2025, the average distance for a move was 952 miles which was up 15.7% vs. the same month last year. If we measure against January 2025, average mileage for a vehicle transported decreased 0.7%.
Looking a bit deeper…
Looking at the underlying factors, there was no material change to the mix of trailer types with Open trailers remaining the most used segment in February. Trailer types saw mixed mileage changes, whether monthly or annually, both to the upside and downside. Driveaway had the largest annual increase of 30%, while Enclosed was up 2.0% and Open was down 2.8%. Analyzing moves by the size of vehicle transported, the data indicated a decrease in PPM for small, medium, and large vehicles transported in February, down 1%, 1.9%, and 0.9%, respectively, compared to January 2025. Extra-large had an increase of 25.2%, though the share of hauls was only 0.21% in February.
