Logistics market data from Central Dispatch showed that average list prices per mile (PPM) reversed their decline year–over–year for the month of March but continued for the seventh sequential decline in a row. The average listed PPM rose $0.01, up 1.0% from February but off 4.5% from March 2024. The price of #2 Diesel declined 2.8% in March to $3.59 per gallon, from $3.70 in February. Since last March, #2 Diesel has declined 11.0%.

In March 2025, the average distance for a move was 932 miles which was up 8.6% vs. the same month last year. If we measure against February 2025, average mileage for a vehicle transported decreased 2.1%.
Looking a bit deeper…
Looking at the underlying factors, there continued to be no material change to the mix of trailer types with Open trailers remaining the most used segment in March. Trailer types saw mixed mileage changes, whether monthly or annually, both to the upside and downside. Enclosed had the largest annual increase of 5.6%, while Driveaway was up 4.8% and Open was down 2.4%. Analyzing moves by the size of vehicle transported, the data indicated a decrease in PPM for small, large, and extra-large vehicles transported in March, down 0.6%, 1.1%, and 20.7%, respectively, compared to February 2025; however, Extra-large share of hauls was only 0.19% in March.
