Logistics Market Intelligence from Central Dispatch showed that average list prices per mile continued running down year over year for the month of September. The average listed price per mile was $1.07 which was down 2.7% from the prior year. Average list price per mile was up against August 2024, increasing by 5.9% from $1.01 in the prior month. Prices usually decline into the month of August, which is a seasonally low point before rising afterwards across the industry.

In September, the average mileage for a move was 882 miles which was up 1.3% against the same month last year. If we measure against August 2024, average mileage for a vehicle transport was down 13.2%.
Looking a bit deeper…
Looking a bit deeper at underlying factors, there was little change in mix of trailer types both against last year and month over month. However, we did see lower average mileage moves on a YoY basis for both Open and Enclosed trailer types. Examining moves by the size of vehicle transported, the data indicate lower prices per mile for the movement of small and medium size vehicles against September of last year but increases for large and extra-large units. The average move was down month over month across all vehicle sizes except for extra-large units.
